This quote, followed by a counter-quote, they both fuel the endless debate:
“Retail guys are going to go out of business, and e-commerce will become the place everyone buys. You are not going to have a choice.” -American entrepreneur, software engineer and investor Marc Andreessen, a.k.a. the co-author of Mosaic, the first widely used Web browser and as co-founder of Netscape Corp.
And the counter quote:
“In order to be a very good retailer, you need to have both stores and a strong online presence, accompanied by an optimized mobile website. Basically, you should be able to offer anything to anyone at any time. Also, there will always be people who love going to stores.” – Gracia Amico, director of ecommerce, Hobbs.
Hobbs, the British women’s retailer, opened its first branch in London in 1981, and currently has over 140 stores in the UK alone, joined by an online network that delivers to over fifty countries.
The final verdict remains controversial.
