Car Hire In Italy Just Got Cheaper

A recent survey carried out by the Malpensa Airport Travel website found that 76% of holidaymakers to Milan paid less for their hire cars in 2012 than they did in 2011. Average savings were in the region of 6%, year-on-year, for similar size of cars and for similar times of the year.

Mike James, CEO of Airport Travel Group, comments that “the car rental industry has become increasingly more competitive as travelers now tend to solely book their hire cars online, meaning that they can shop around for the best deals from the comfort of their sofas”. The survey carried out focused specifically on Malpensa car hire booked through the Malpensa Airport Travel website, although the trends are similar for other locations in with the Airport Travel Group operates.

This is certainly great news for travelers as increases in airport taxes, airfares and general travel costs have all been steadily increasing over the past few years.

However, Mike warns that there are times in which you can pay more for your hire car than you bargained for. “At peak times such as summer, Christmas and Easter holidays prices can increase quite substantially as the number of available cars decreases. So it definitely pays to book as far ahead in advance as possible to secure the best rates”.
